Bodybuilding and Budgeting: How to combine two great hobbies

Everyone is getting swole these days, but it’s hard to get swole when your wallet doesn’t start swole. Gym memberships, 20lb bags of whey, spandex—these things all cost a lot of money. If you want to get ripped on a fast schedule, you need to work around the limits that your cashflow is going to put on you. The best way to do that is to operate a bodybuilding budget that allows you to plan ahead for your whole swole journey.

Start with a bodybuilding budget

How much a month are you spending on working out? You need to know that ahead of time to build a real plan, so let’s get that out of the way. Know how much you plan to spend on working out, and then set aside that amount each month so you can get all your swole time in on schedule. Once you’ve decided how much you’re willing to spend, break it down into categories. For example, maybe you want the more expensive gym with all the good equipment, but you can afford to go cheap with your supplements? Your biggest expense is likely going to be your gym membership, so that’s something to think about carefully. The “right” gym needs to have all the right qualities. It needs to be close enough that you can’t make easy excuses not to go. It needs to have the right equipment not just for what you want to do now, but what you want to do once you’ve improved. It has to have the right people and give you the right vibe if you want it to be a place you love to come. Those are some of the reasons you should sort out your gym membership before your other expenses. It’s so much easier to make sacrifices in other areas. Once you have made that decision though, you’re going to want to put the rest of the money you’re spending into other areas. We’ve got some tips to help.

Grab those specials

Supplements are constantly being unloaded in massive sales. Check regularly online and at your local big box store to snatch up a year’s supply for a bargain price. You almost never have to pay full price for supplements because of how often they go on sale. If you want to do this efficiently, consider data-tracking the cost of the supplements you use most, so that you know when you’re really looking at a helpful bargain. Bodybuild with a bro Bodybuilding with a bro is a great way to save a lot of money. Gym memberships often have guest features on them that allow you to get two people in for one membership. As long as you’re willing to work out at the same time, it won’t be a problem. Having a scheduled workout session with someone else is a great way to stay dedicated to
